Artist Statement:
Anjeli Narandran (aka Thread Pirate Roberts) is a self-taught textile artist who creates vivid portraits, pop-art inspired work and abstract pieces by commission. With an artistic background in drawing, Anjeli discovered a more flexible, forgiving, and contemplative medium in embroidery when she first became a mother at the start of the pandemic. She is inspired by nature and its organic and undulating shapes and employs unusual colour schemes; high-contrast and high saturation. Anjeli eschews straight lines and geometric shapes or juxtaposes them with highly textured and irregular forms. |
