Lucie Macaulay

Artist Statement:

​​Lucie has an eclectic background in a range of crafts including crochet, mosaic and upholstery. She has been experimenting with the stretchy, curvy and tough waterproof properties of punctured bicycle inner tubes for five years. They can be stitched, snipped, hole-punched and turned inside out and they hold their shape, don't tear or crease and look like fine leather. Bicycle shops no longer mend punctures but replace the entire tube so there is an endless supply of free materials that would otherwise go to landfill.
